How you are allowed to use our materials depends on what you want to use them for. Please select your use below:
- Computer Games
- Printed media
- Website Design
- 3D models or scenes sold on digital marketplaces
- Animations, videos, YouTube videos
- Bundling with a 3D Engine or graphics program
- Textures, materials, shaders
- T-Shirts, mouse mats, phone covers
- Scrapbooking
Can I use the materials in my own (commercial) video game?
Yes, it's allowed to use our materials to create your own free or commercial video game for PC, for consoles, or mobile devices. This is also allowed for materials you have downloaded with a Free account.
It does not matter how the game is distributed or sold (for example through direct sales, Steam, the Apple Store or Google Play). When using the materials in your own computer game, you do not need to mention our website as the source of the materials.
Please note that it is not allowed to release our images under Open Source licenses (even when the materials are modified). If you are working on an game that is released under an Open Source license, you need to release content that has been created using our materials under a closed source license.
Can I use your textures in printed media?
Yes. You are free to use the textures in printed media, such as magazines, CD covers, DVD covers, books, advertisements, packaging design, in-store display materials, and flyers.
You do not need to pay us any royalties, and there are no restrictions on the number of copies or the regions in which the product is released. You do not need to mention our website as the source of the materials.
May I use your textures to design a website?
Yes. You are free to use the textures for (commercial) website design if you are creating a website for yourself or directly for a client. Our textures may not be used in website themes/templates sold to many different customers.
Can I use the materials on a 3D model or scene or video game level which I will offer or sell on a digital marketplace?
Regular textures (as indicated on the download page) may be bundled with 3D models, scenes or video game levels under the following conditions:
- you have customized the materials for the 3D model, scene or game level,
- all materials are actually used on the 3D model, in the scene or game level
- you are selling the model and materials in one package.
In other words: do not use bundling as a loophole to sell a texture or material pack.
Please add the following text in the documentation accompanying the model:
"One or more textures bundled with this project have been created with images from Textures.com. These images may not be redistributed by default. Please visit www.textures.com for more information."
IMPORTANT: For the avoidance of doubt, Special Content (such as Substance .sbsar or .sbs files, PBR Materials, HDR Skydomes, HDR Panoramas, 3D Scans, 3D Scanned Objects, 3D Ornaments, 3D Foliage, Atlas Scans, and 3D Brushes, or as indicated on the download page) may not be bundled with models. This even applies when you modify the materials: modification does not mean you are allowed to bundle these types of materials.
Can I use your materials in my animation or (YouTube) video?
Yes, using our materials in animations or (YouTube) videos is allowed when the video is the end product. You do not need to mention our website as the source of the materials. It is not allowed to use our materials for stock videos (videos which are sold to many customers and are used to create new videos).
Can I use your images to create and sell my own textures, texture packs, materials or shaders?
No, you are not allowed to resell (or give away for free) our images as a competing product, even when you modify the images. Competing products are for example textures, texture packs, materials, shaders, clipart or scrapbooking elements.
This is a very common clause in the license agreement of almost every texture and stock photography website. If you wish to profit from selling these kind of products, your best option is to get a camera and photograph your own textures.
I have spent hours modifying an image. Now that I've spent so much time on it, can I sell it as a texture?
No. Even when you modify an image, you are not allowed to sell it as a texture, material, shader, clipart, etc. Allowing this would invite abuse: it is impossible to define in legal text what an adequate amount modification is. Some people will put in a lot of effort, but other people will just change the color and think this is ok to resell for profit. To avoid any confusion we do not allow resale as competing products at all.
Can I bundle your textures or materials with my 2D/3D program or engine?
No, our materials may not be bundled with 2D or 3D graphics programs, graphic utilities, tools or 3D engines.
Can I use your images on T-Shirts, mouse mats, phone covers?
This is allowed when the image is a minor part in a complex design and when you are printing the product yourself or directly for a client.
It is not allowed to use our images on products sold on Print on Demand websites (where a product is only printed when a customer makes an order).
Can I use the textures in my scrapbooking work?
Yes, use in scrapbooking is allowed, but only for your direct and personal use. We do not allow ANY kind of resale as scrapbooking materials (even when the images are modified).
To make this very clear: do you use the materials for your own scrapbook? This is allowed. Want to offer/sell scrapbooking materials to other people? This is NOT allowed.
Can I put some of your materials on my own website?
No, redistribution of the materials is not allowed. We want to keep the materials in one place (this website). That way everybody knows where they came from and what the license terms are.
Can I release the materials under an Open Source (Creative Commons, GPL, etc) license?
No. These materials may not be released under Open Source licenses. Almost all Open-Source licenses allow unlimited redistribution of the materials, and redistribution is not allowed for these textures. This is a common problem with art resources (textures, sound, etc), not just our images. A possible solution is to release the art materials of the project under a closed sourced license.
Can I use your textures in my Second Life work?
Unfortunately no. After the 6th of September 2013 we no longer allow the use of images in Second Life or any other Linden Lab product. The Second Life Terms of Service claims unlimited and irrevocable rights to any work you upload to their Service, and this is not compatible with our own license. If you have used our images on builds uploaded before 6 September 2013, you can continue to use, sell, give away those builds just like before.
